Winning the WoW Gold Battle at the Auction House

In the fast-paced economy of World of Warcraft, thousands of items are put up for bidding on a daily basis. The more common wares might go for as low as several coppers, but one-of-a-kind epics such as the upcoming Mastery gear in Cataclysm can cost the winning bidder thousands of WoW Gold.

And while it's not the end of the world to lose out on a bid for a stack of copper ore, it might sting a lot to see that rare upgrade slip away just because you didn't know the fundamentals of auction bidding.

Just follow these hard and fast rules and you'll soon grab every item that tickles your fancy despite heavy competition, provided you have enough WoW Gold to finance your spending.

Check the time left before an auction bid ends.
Every auction bid will tell you an approximate window period of how much time is remaining before it's won by the highest bidder.

"Very Long" means the more than 12 hours before the auction bid ends. "Long" means between 12 and 2 hours, "Medium" means between 2 hours and 3 minutes, and "Short means less than 30 minutes.

The crucial part here is to check every two hours once your auction bid hits Long. The "Bids" tab on your auction house UI can help you keep track of this information. Once your auction bid hits the crucial Short phase, though, then it's time to postpone any other activity aside from outbidding all your opponents.

The last 30 minutes is the final stretch for deciding the winning bidder—and you want this to be you. Refresh the Bids page frequently and submit a higher bid when necessary. Never let up and by the end of your vigil, that item will be yours.

Choose the bottom of the list
Another good strategy to avoid the competition for bids is to search the auction house for a certain item and then bid on the bottom-most results. Most gamers will just bid on the topmost search results so simply scroll down to the bottom screen or even click the next page results for a higher chance of snagging that item.

Overbid or just buy outright
If you don't have the time or patience to obsessively watch over bid times at the auction house, you can overbid or just buy outright.

This strategy will work for you if you're a WoW Gold baron who has little time but has a large bank balance at your disposal. You can submit a bid hat far exceeds the initial bid requirement or just snap up the item ASAP if there is a buyout option included with the item.

Nowadays, it's extremely rare for high-end items to be posted without buyout prices. But be careful though that some sellers will purposely add hundreds—even thousands—of WoW Gold in markup to capitalize on your impatience. Read the prices twice and think for a few minutes before clicking that buyout button so you can feel confident about your purchase.
